Born from a collaboration between Lykke Lighting and Kyoko Ibe, a leading washi artist, the AWA KOYORI Series brings together the technical expertise of Lykke’s lighting engineers, Ibe’s artistic vision, and the exceptional craftsmanship of Awa Washi artisans. Their combined mastery has given rise to a collection that embodies both tradition and innovation, revealing new possibilities for washi as a contemporary material.
Based on the concept of “enhancing the quality of life through the power of light,” Lykke Lighting proposes to create spaces with sophisticated lighting by carefully selecting high-quality lighting brands from Japan and abroad.
Kyoko Ibe has been a pioneer in washi-based art since the 1970s, creating works that transcend the boundaries between art, craft, and design. Her wide-ranging practice spans folding screens, canvases, stage sets, and large-scale installations, as well as lighting pieces that blend seamlessly into daily life.
Based in Kyoto, Shion Co., Ltd. designs and produces stationery, lifestyle goods, and interior items that incorporate traditional Japanese washi. Rooted in the beauty of the seasons and harmony with nature, Shion aims to bring the gentle presence of washi into modern living.
